A barometer is a forecasting tool. It tracks barometric pressure over time and generates data useful in creating weather forecasts. To be useful for forecasting, a barometer has to record whether the pressure is rising or falling. It's not the absolute value so much as the trend value of the barometric pressure that makes a barometer useful for forecasting.

The Market Barometer has three main goals:

  • To keep you informed

  • To interpret the meaning of important events in the flow industry by placing them in context

  • To use all the data available to present a "State of the Flow Industry" report every quarter

The Market Barometer is for:

Manufacturers and distributors who want to stay informed about the flow industry and understand trends in products and technologies

Endusers and OEMs who want to know what new products are available and understand what technologies are being developed

The Market Barometer will be published in the following months in 2002 and 2003:

April 2002
July 2002
October 2002
January 2003
April 2003
July 2003
October 2003

Length: 40 to 80 pages per issue

The Market Barometer is the component of Worldflow™ that focuses on the flowmeter industry.  Every quarter, the Barometer shines its spotlight on the flowmeter industry, looking for important events to discuss or highlight.

We find the important events, report them, and place them in the context of the flow industry. The Barometer explains and interprets the importance of new products, technologies, mergers, and acquisitions. We give you the information you need to make important forecasts, product features, and marketing.

The Market Barometer is somewhat like a weather barometer.  The Barometer uses all available data to determine the "State of the Industry." But like a barometer, it's not the absolute value, but the relative value that' s useful for forecasting. How does this quarter compare to the last? What's the forecast for the next few quarters? Because we have flow data going back to 1992, and have over 3000 pages of data on today's flow industry, we can place the quarter in context.

Topics included in the Market Barometer

  • New flowmeters that have been introduced

  • Mergers and acquisitions

  • New technologies under development

  • Marketing strategies for flowmeter suppliers

  • Important results from the Interkama show, ISA, or other flow-related conferences

How you can use this information:
  • To make decisions about product development

  • To formulate growth strategies

  • To better understand how to market your products

  • To find companies you can potentially form an alliance with

  • To better understand the products and technologies on the market and their application

  • For end-users to make a more informed decision about what kind of flowmeter to buy

How does this benefit you? As a product or marketing manager, you need to know more than what products have been introduced. You need to know what this means for the flowmeter market, and, more importantly, for you.  The FM Barometer does more than report -- it also tells you what significant events mean so you can assess the impact on your own marketing efforts.

As a marketing or product manager, you can base your decisions on opinion, or you can base your decisions on hard data. Worldflow™ gives you hard data every quarter so you can make informed decisions, based on the latest information.

The Market Barometer puts events in perspective

The Barometer records these developments so they can be included in the next issue.  But merely reporting the news is not enough for the Barometer.  The Barometer also places these developments in the context of the flowmeter industry.  Examples of potential story topics:

  • If the American Petroleum Institute (API) or American Gas Association (AGA) approve the use of Coriolis flowmeters for custody transfer of natural gas, what will be the impact on the ultrasonic flowmeter market?
  • What advances does Rosemount's new 3051S pressure transmitter incorporate?
  • What will be the impact of Panametrics' GC868 clamp-on ultrasonic meter for gas on the gas flow measurement market?
